Dal Aatta Chakli

Moong dal aatta chakli is crispy, delicious and easy to make. For the festive season it is a perfect snack to serve. You can store it for a month too.

  3+1/2 Cups Whole wheat flour

  1/4 Cup Yellow moong dal (yellow split lentil)

  1 Tsp Ghee (Clarified butter)

  1 Tsp red Chilli powder

  1 Tbsp ginger - chilli paste

  A pinch of asafoetida

  1 Tsp carom seeds

  1 Tsp sesame seeds

  Salt to taste

  Oil for fying

Soak dal for 30 minutes. Add in cooker with 1/4 cup water and wait for 1-2 whistles.

Allow to cool and open the lid of cooker. Mash it with a spoon.

Tie the flour in a muslin cloth.

Boil water in a big vessel, place a ring and a plate over it.

Place the tied muslin cloth over the plate. Cover it with lid and steam the flour for 25-30 minutes on low medium flame.

Remove the lid and take out the tied cloth from the vessel.

Open the tied cloth and break the flour with any heavy object into tiny pieces.

Sieve the steamed flour in batches.

Add red chilli powder, salt, asafoetida, green chilli-ginger paste, carom seeds sesame seeds and ghee.

Mix with hands.

Add boiled-mashed dal. Mix it nicely.

Add water and make a tight dough. Cover and keep it aside for 20 minutes.

Place a star hole disc in a sev maker. Fill the sev maker with prepared dough. Close it.

Prepare chaklis and make sure the ends are sealed properly.

Deep fry them in hot oil on medium to high flame till they become crispy.

Flip them and fry from another side too.

Take out from oil and allow to cool. Store in an air tight container.

Home made crispy dal aata chakli is ready to eat!!
